Job Title:  Service Center Director – Service Extension Bureau

 Job Summary:

 The Service Center Director will report to the Senior Field Representative and or Director of Development at Divisional Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, and will carry out duties as assigned.  The Service Center Director will work directly with the Advisory Board and the Field Representative assigned to this area.

 

The Service Center Director will be responsible for the coordination and execution of the day-to-day programming for the Ellwood City Service Center. 

In general, the Service Center Director shall be responsible for the following in Ellwood City and surrounding communities (Enon Valley, Fombell, Portersville, and Wampum) to work in conjunction with the Advisory Board to maintain, enhance or expand existing programs offered to the community, give guidance and encouragement to Service Unit volunteers who may assist in fund raising locally, as well as working with them on a plan to coordinate county-wide programs.  The Service Center Director will attend all Service Unit meetings as described in the guidelines.  In addition, the Service Center Director will supervise clerical support staff.

 

 

Essential Functions:

 Supervision

The Director is responsible for giving leadership and direction to the clerical staff and volunteers.  Training, monitoring and open communication between clerical staff and volunteers is essential.   The Director is responsible for giving an annual performance evaluation to the clerical support.

Fiscal Management

The Service Center Director working in conjunction with the Development Director will devise and oversee the annual operating budget for the Center. 

Casework

 The Service Center Director will track and compile monthly statistical reports given to The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters (DHQ) as well as for FEMA.

 

The Service Center Director will oversee the normal daily routine of dealing with clients, offering them guidance and assistance with their needs (i.e. food, clothing, rental assistance, etc.)  The Service Center Director may not provide more than $150 on any individual voucher.  The Senior Field Representative must approve any amount between $150 and $250.  The Director of Development must approve any amount over $250.  When a case for assistance becomes too involved/complex, the Service Center Director may call the Senior Field Representative for assistance on the decision that needs to be rendered.  Frequent repeat assistance to any one individual is to be avoided.

 

The Service Center Director with Advisory Board input will ensure that interagency cooperation with the food bank, social services, etc. will take place.

 

Fundraising and Public Relations

 

The Service Center Director will coordinate all fund raising and public relations

activities locally to benefit The Salvation Army’s Ellwood City Service Center.

 

Maintain and or expand the following existing seasonal programs:

 

Kettles – The major fundraising activity for the Center is the coordination and execution of the of the red kettle campaign during the Christmas season.  An annual monetary goal is established and a plan is put in place by the Director and Advisory Board on the recruitment of volunteers and kettle locations.  Kettle income is essential to the operations of the Center.  

 

Direct Mail Program -   Through TrueSense Marketing and DHQ a monthly direct mail letter is sent to donors in the Ellwood City area.  The Director will have oversight to the coordination of the mail appeal process to Cash Management in Boston.

 

Women’s Group – Coordinate a monthly women’s group meeting once a week. 

 

Hospital Visitation/Special Service – Monthly visitation for residents in rehabilitation or assisted living. 

 

Soup Kitchen – Coordination of a weekly soup kitchen

 

Christmas Assistance Applications – Accept applications from local families and individuals for Christmas assistance, i.e. Treasures for Children and food.

 

Treasures for Children – Work in conjunction with Advisory Board Members and local individuals and companies.  Companies accept Treasurers for Children tags and purchase gifts for children.

 

        Distribution Days – Work in conjunction with Advisory Board Members to

        coordinate food distribution.

 

        Project Bundle-Up -  Accept applications for coat program for children

        0-18 and seniors 65+ to receive a new coat every other year.

 

Back to School Program – Coordinate Back to School supplies for children in need.

 

Thanksgiving Food Baskets – Coordinate a Thanksgiving food basket drive.

 

        Additional Projects – Other programs and services that arise.

Community Relations:

The Director gives oversight and direction to publicizing the programs and services of the Ellwood City Service Center in order to build and cultivate media relationships in the community in order to enhance the Army’s visibility in this area. 

Meetings:

Service Units/Advisory Board:

 It is understood that the Service Center Director will schedule and attend all Advisory Board meetings and will attend all Service Unit meetings, except when on vacation or due to illness.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to embrace and carry out The Salvation Army Mission.
  2. A background or proven ability to develop and monitor budgets.
  3. A proven ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision.
  4. A proven ability to manage and lead others in accomplishing established objectives.
  5. Able to produce well constructed and clearly written communications and reports.
  6. A current Pennsylvania driver’s license.
  7. Good interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills.

 Education and Experience:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in social services is preferred. 
  2. At least 1-3 years of social service, business or Christian ministry background.
