Warm Heart Of Riverside Sixth Grade Students
March 28, 2008

Sixth graders at Riverside Intermediate School rallied
to support their friend who was diagnosed with Leukemia last year. Their
friend, who they love so much, has been in the Intensive Care Unit
of Children's Hospital's
since before Christmas, fighting the many
complications
associated with the illness. When Mrs. Richards (top
right) suggested to her class that she'd like to coordinate a fundraiser for
their friend and fellow classmate, the generous, kind hearted 11 and 12 year
olds eagerly began opening their backpacks, reaching
into their pockets looking for donations to proudly contribute. With the
participation of Mrs. Dietrich (top left) and her class, they were able get
all the other sixth grade students involved, and raised an
amazing $740.00 in only three school days , all coming during the week
before Easter vacation.
The news of this effort began to spread and soon
everyone got involved. Mr. Girting (the Intermediate School Principal) was
quite impressed with all the warmth and generosity. Custodians, cafeteria
workers, other teachers; everyone joined in this rally of support. Mrs. Ward, a Middle School Social Studies teacher told
EllwoodCity.org that it's because of the people at
Riverside and these acts of kindness, that she will continue to travel 40
minutes to the job she loves so much...Photo taken by Cory Morton - EllwoodCity.org
