Ellwood City -- In Need of Community Help?

On Wednesday afternoon at the Ellwood Area
Family Center quite a crowd turned out for the scheduled Meet 'n Greet, with
the Police Chief Richard McDonald, Officer Michael McBride, and the star of
the show, Jozek the police dog.
The Ellwood community, both young and old,
asked officer McBride question after question about Jozek, and with every
answer the community gained a feeling of comfortably, knowing that Ellwood
City Police Department is doing everything they can to assure this community
safety and working toward Ellwood City becoming drug free.
EllwoodCity.Org reporter Chris McNamara caught
up with Officer Michael McBride after the Meet 'n Greet ceremony and had a
few questions for him rather than Jozek. EllwoodCity.org asked how the
dog is affecting the community and what the police department is doing to
reach their goals of Ellwood City becoming a drug free town?
Officer McBride responded, "One thing we are
looking to do here in Ellwood City is to not only apprehend drug users and
drug dealers, but we are also hoping to prevent people from using drugs. One
thing we’re trying to do is to get out into the communities and schools to
talk to children about the dangers of drugs, what the circumstances are if
they get caught with the drugs, and also to get out there and talk to
parents on how to get into their kids business and to prevent this so we
don’t have a drug problem in the town."
"Drugs
are everywhere, not just here in Ellwood City, and without the community
help, the police department including the dog are fighting somewhat of a
losing battle, but they are doing what they can to maintain," Officer
McBride added.
"If the community wants the drugs out, the
community will get them out, but we need their HELP. So if we are
going to win the battle against drugs we are going to have to get the
community involved," Officer McBride concluded.
A community awareness event such as the recent
Meet 'n Greet is sure to be step in the right direction for police
department, the community, and the town of Ellwood City.
