Perfect weather, record crowds and booming fireworks were just the tip of
the iceberg of the 27th Annual Ellwood City Arts & Crafts
Festival. The festivities carried on the tradition enjoyed each year since
the festival’s inception in 1980.
“The thing that seemed different this year compared to other years,” said
visitor Kathy Costello, “was the blend of excitement and creativity that
seemed to radiate from the participants and the performers.”
As June gave way to July over the weekend, nearly 200 craft booths and
numerous food vendors participated in the three-day festival that saw
featured entertainment by B.E. Taylor, Dave Salera (Frank Sinatra
Impersonator), and Dan Obusek (Elvis Presley Impersonator).
Visitor Scott Jones who currently lives in Arkansas noted, “Every year that
I attend gives me a sense of pride that I was once part of this wonderful
community.”
There are many traditions that have developed over the past years including
the fireworks, bocce tournaments, Sunday in the Park community church
service and the 10K race, for which a Jake Walker win has seemingly become a
tradition of its own.
No matter what the tradition, or the food choice, or even from what booth a
purchase was made, there seems to be an air of pride and excitement that
continues to make this event a memorable one and the “tip of the iceberg” of
even better things to come.
