Ellwood City held it’s latest Council Meeting
this past Monday evening where three main topics were covered and several
Ellwood City residents had their chance to have their voices heard by the
council.
On the top of the agenda Monday evening was
community representatives making their options and thoughts clear about
revitalization of downtown Ellwood City. Every speaker had his or her own
options, but one thing was constant between the four or five who spoke,
Ellwood City is in desperate need of a revitalization.
“Revealing the treasures” is how one local
representative put it, Ellwood City has potential to become a beautiful
small town, with a main street scattered with store fronts, and a community
that wants that safe feeling back when out and about.
The council, who is 100% behind the
revitalization, will meet again on the Ellwood City Revitalization topic.
A meeting has been set for Thursday, August
23, 2007 with members of council and members of the Revitalization committee
to iron out the details.
The second issue discussed Monday evening was
flooding of the water and sewage drains in and around the Ellwood City area.
The first speaker was a resident of Ellwood
City, who lived across the street from Ewing Park. The issue for the council
was that for the second time in past years the resident's basement was
flooded with sewage, caused by backup of the water and sewage drains in
Ewing Park. The resident felt the Borough needs to do something about this
issue, because he feels people from out of town are coming into Ewing Park
during the Arts and Crafts Festival and profiting from selling their crafts
and food, but then damaging the park and dumping food grease down those
drainage drains which causes them to clog.
Also on the same topic another voices where
heard about he flooding problems because of the clogs in the drainage drains
following the heavy rains in the past weeks.
The third and final topic discussed at the
meeting, was the gun-ban ordinance. The ordnance was talked about around,
which would ban un-permitted firearms In the Borough of Ellwood City.
