"It
was standing room only!" according to Karen Wilson, owner of Thanks A Latte,
Ellwood City's newest coffee shop located at the Creekside Commons. "Everyone
took a turn at leading the sing-a-long, even Gavin's grandfather, Dan Weisz
, " Wilson added. " It was so full of Christmas spirit in here on Friday
night, it did the heart good."
Friday night, Thanks A Latte hosted a sing-a-long in effort to raise money
to assist with the medical expenses related to the care of Gavin Myers. Gavin
Myers is a six month old baby who was recently diagnosed with Neuroblastoma,
a rare form of cancer. The cancer, which effects your sympathetic nervous
system, is found in less than 600 children a year.
In only three hours, they were able to raise a significant amount of money.
Frank and Kathy D'Ambrosio made a christmas CD and sold them for the cause.
A basket full of coffee, tea and other Thanks a Latte merchandise was
raffled off, as well as a 50/50 drawing. Laurie Hulick and Bill Livingston
were winners of the 50/50 raffle; both of which gave their winnings back as
their donation, there were collection containers and photos with Santa as
well.
A memorable moment occurred when Ellwood City resident, Tom Milnes, gathered
everyone around his acoustic guitar and the entire coffee chop burst into
Silent Night.
Thanks A Latte would like to extend special thanks to Tom Milnes for the use
of his sound system, to the Lincoln High School Choir for their
participation and to Rich Oliver who made a wonderful Santa.
If you are interested in helping out Gavin Myers, you may make a deposit to
the Gavin Myers Medical Expenses Fund at your local Huntington Bank. For
