ELLWOOD CITY – When news was
released last week that Busy Beaver would be closing two stores, the
Franklin Plaza Busy Beaver started fielding calls.
“The first day we got a half dozen calls and people were panicked,” said
Bill Rock, manager of the Ellwood City Busy Beaver location.
The chain announced that it would be closing two stores, one in Cranberry,
Venango County, and another in the Edgewood section of Pittsburgh.
“I don’t know if people just heard the `wood’ part of Edgewood, but they
thought it was us,” Rock said. “We are not going anywhere.”
The store opened in the Franklin Plaza in August 2004. Rock said sales at
the store have steadily increased over the years.
Rock said he called the Ellwood City Area Chamber of Commerce to pass on the
news that the Ellwood City store was staying in business after getting those
panicked calls.
Tom Stachura, executive director of the chamber, decided to pass the news on
via e-mail to members last week and encourage them to shop at Busy Beaver.
“We encourage people to do as much shopping locally as they can and keep our
stores open,” he said.
