Many may think individuals participating in such
an event labeled “Bowl A Thon” would be tossing a ball down an oil-filled alley
or tossing a pigskin around in preparation for the Super Bowl. But Saturday’s
Bowl A Thon at the Lincoln High School invited students, faculity, and community
members to use their hands in a different sense, to create ceramic pottery
bowls.
The Bowl A Thon, an event sponsored by four-year,
Lincoln High School art teacher, Raquel Wratney, is part of the Ellwood City
Community Enrichment’s Annual Arts and Humanities Series. A few participants
created their own bowls while others painted pre spun ceramic bowls created by
Wratney. All the bowls created and painted during the Saturday Bowl A Thon will
be auctioned off at a dinner-and-an-art-show in March. The fundraising event
will be held at the First United Methodist Church on March 4th and
with the help of Wratney and those who took part in the Bowl A Thon, now will
have plenty of super bowls to auction off.
