Local Retail Store Draws Crowds

Black Friday
lived up to it's name even for a local retail store here in Ellwood City. Lines
began to form in the early hours of the morning and an hour before the scheduled
opening of 9 a.m., people were in line all the way down the block. The cold
temperatures and bursts of snow didn't keep people from finding ways to be the
first in line.
David Smith
arrived at 1:30 a.m. to be the first person to get in when the store opened. He
slept in his car till 4:30 a.m. when several others arrived and then stood
outside to brave the elements till opening. When asked why, he said the shortage
of the sought-after Nintendo Wii systems was a large reason for the
commitment. He wanted to buy the gift for his step daughter.
Ryan Venezie, the
store owner received a call at 7:30 about the line that was forming outside the
store. He then came in at 8 to open the store so the customers wouldn't have to
wait in the cold.
"It has been
quite an experience already" Venezie said in his first year of operation. People
warned me to be ready but I never thought it would be this crazy. Retail sales
are expected to be brisk this year but somewhat slower than last because of oil
prices and a slumping economy. You would have never guessed it driving by this
local merchants store. Black Friday was more like Green Friday.
Game Zone is
located on Fifth Street, near Rite-Aid Pharmacy, in Ellwood City.
