Hall of Trophies considered for high school

ELLWOOD CITY -- Bob Stevenson knows that the trophies and awards given to Lincoln students over the years are just sitting in storage.
That’s why he is proposing the district create a hallway display where they can all be viewed. Stevenson, a member of the Ellwood City Area School Board, suggested they make the hallway that extends from Short Street to the back parking lot near the boy’s gymnasium a `hall of trophies.’
Stevenson said he knows a retired carpenter who might be willing to donate his services for a reduced rate or possibly for free and Stevenson suggested they solicit businesses in Ellwood City to donate money for the project.
Board members appointed Stevenson to be in charge of exploring the idea. Stevenson said he intends to have more details at the next school board meeting.
The school board also conducted the following business at Thursday’s meeting:
Schools Superintendent Frank Aloi reported that 60 graduating seniors garnered $1,158,000 in scholarships for higher education this year.
Appointed the following elementary summer school staff: Anna Dimeo, Patty Colao, Crista Gagric, Connie Frisk, Anita Hand, Randy French, Bill Baker, Bill Gottuso, Lori Kolhmeyer, Jeff Meehan and Dave Ialongo. Substitutes are Kandis Boy, Craig Alberts, Joanne Shumaker and Jim Potts.
Tenure was granted to the following teachers: Minetta Brown, Charlene Lucarelli, Kathleen Mulhollen, Leigh Ann Russell, Kaleena Selfridge, Deborah Wiech and Nick Franitti.
Jane Windhorst of Portersville was hired as an elementary emotional support instructor.
Christopher Reilsono of Moon Township was hired as a business/technology instructor.
The following were hired as elementary teachers: Lisa Pflugh of Beaver Falls, Christy Spiering of New Castle, Ryan Wilfong of Zelienople and Sarah Perry of Murrysville.
The following facility requests were granted:
Doug Smith, Cubmaster of Pack 806, use of Perry Elementary School playground from 1 to 4 p.m. June 27 to host Pack 806 Bicycle Rodeo. The program instructs children on how to be safe cyclists.
Thomas Stachura of the Ellwood City Chamber of Commerce requested use of the Lincoln High School parking lot on Aug. 1 to park cars and pick up and deliver people attending a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game.
Ellwood City Little Wolverines requested use of Helling Stadium for home football games Aug. 22, 29, Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 10, 17, 24 and 31. They also requested use of the locker rooms and bathrooms.
Merle Schilling of the Moraine Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America requested use of the Hartman Elementary School cafeteria on Sept. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. to explain the Cub Scout program to parents of potential members.
Geneva College requested that Melissa Hunt of Beaver Falls be permitted to complete her clinical practicum assignment in the district. She will be supervised by Tracey Oliastro from Sept. 2 through Dec. 11.
The board agreed to cancel the July board meetings and reschedule them as needed.
Leslie Gleghorn, Frank Keally and Curt Agostinelli were permitted to complete their field experience for their principal certificates under the direction of the elementary and secondary principals during the summer months of 2009. |
