ELLWOOD CITY – Even though the
students aren’t in class at Lincoln High School that doesn’t mean
there isn’t work being done.
A $6.5 million construction project
is now underway to add space near the boy’s gymnasium and the Short
Street side of the building for new administrative offices.
Chris Thompson, the district’s
superintendent of buildings and grounds, said the project is nearly on
schedule. There was some hold up as the contractors searched for black
bricks to match the existing pattern with the red bricks on the building
and there were a few instances where weather held up the work.
He said the addition near the boy’s
gymnasium is going well with half of the brick in place. Thompson said
that work should be done by late August and the administrative offices
will be temporarily moved to that space in August. The space will
ultimately be used as a weight room and class space.
There are also plans to renovate
the boy’s gym by adding new bleachers, replacing the gym floor and
renovating the locker room that will being sometime during the school
year.
Thompson said they are now tearing
down the canopy on Short Street and should start work on the new
administrative offices soon. That work is slated to be done by February.
Plans call for the construction of
5,000 square feet of administrative space along the current Short Street
entrance. The additional office space is being constructed to add a
secure entrance to the building.
Updates on the building’s electric,
heating and air conditioning units are also underway.
