ELLWOOD CITY – Five years ago, the future of Ellwood City Moose Lodge 93
looked bleak.
Today, the group has more than 400 members,
a new building and a reason to celebrate.
The club marks its 100th anniversary next
week with specials throughout the week and a fireworks display.
The anniversary kicks off Sunday with drink
and food specials throughout the week and on June 19 the club will
have a disc jockey from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
The celebration ends June 20 with fireworks
by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale at 9:30 p.m. and entertainment by
the Southern Spirits Band.
Just a few years ago it appeared the club
would have to close due to dwindling members and debt.
Sarver said changes in the leadership
brought the club back to life and it now boasts 400 members and nearly
100 members of the women’s chapter, Women of the Moose 442.
The club organized 1909 with 51 members and
was originally located in the Ellwood City Opera House on Lawrence
Avenue, according to the lodge’s web site,
www.ellwoodcitymoose.com.
The Ellwood City Moose Club remained in the
original building on the 600 block of Lawrence Avenue until 1999 when
a new building was constructed on Factory Avenue.
The original pool table and shuffleboard
table were restored and refinished for continued use in the current
Moose Club.
Sarver said the club members pride
themselves on having a family oriented facility.
