Civic Chorale concert season starts Sunday
May 15, 2009
The Ellwood City Area Civic Chorale is kicking off its spring season with its annual patron concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Second and Spring streets.
The concert will feature a mix of sacred and secular music and is free and open to the public.
The chorale is in its 55th year of performing.
Some of the group will be traveling to New York City in June to perform at Carnegie Hall to celebrate the anniversary of one of the group’s favorite music publishers.
The group has between 35 and 40 members at any given concert and boasts still having three original members for its inaugural 1954 season. They also attract new members yearly of all ages.
Among the new arrangements for this spring’s concert season are the Beatle’s “Long and Winding Road” and the Holly’s “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother.” Bruce Thalmann will be featured with the chorale singing “Hear Me Redeemer.”
