ELLWOOD CITY – The new toddler kingdom in Ewing Park is now opened to youngsters.
Parks Director Joe Cioffi and youngsters from Pip Squeaks Day Care cut the ribbon for the new play lot Monday morning and the children tried it out.
The lot is intended for children ages 2 to 5 years old. Cioffi said a permanent fence will be constructed around the area to keep it contained and benches will be installed.
A grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources helped pay for the toddler kingdom and renovations to Shelter 5. The borough received about $35,000 from the state and had to match that with addition money and labor.
Cioffi said much of the borough’s match was through in-kind services done by borough workers.
Borough officials had kept the new play spot closed since installing the play equipment because they were waiting for the new safety surface to be installed. Last week workers put in the soft surface made from recycled tires.
