Rotary Club presents $1,000 for Polio Foundation

The Rotary Club of Ellwood City recently held their weekly meeting where they presented the first check of $1,000 to the foundation for Polio known as “End Polio Now.”

“End Polio Now” campaign is part of Rotary International, and their goal is to raise $200 million, including the already $355 million grant received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries where Polio continues to infect and paralyze children.

The Rotary Club of Ellwood City has made the pledge and the first check of $1,000 was sent to the foundation. According to the Rotary International Magazine, $99 million of the $200 million has already been raised.

In attendance to present the check as seen in the photo was: Jim Latta and Bruce Thalmann (holding the check); Herman Feldman, Bill Blank, Max Greenberg, Dave Braymer Gerry Crowley, Kathy Thalmann-Blank (second row); Chet Buquo, Gail Blakeney, Louise Carroll, Monica Palmer (third row); Doug Lockawich, Jean Barsotti, Ted Zimmerman, Ivor Rorquist, Buck Weingartner, Harold McWhertor (back row).

The next meeting is Thursday, Feb. 25 titled “Beat the Winter Blues” for the Rotary family, spouses, and friends.
