9:10 AM - The Ellwood City Borough snow removal crew will just be getting up from their long awaited sleep when yet another significant amount of snow may drop on the town.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm watch will be in effect starting Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon.
A strong low pressure system moving eastward through the Upper Ohio Valley may bring more than 6 inches of snow accumulation. A short period of mixed wintry precipitation is also possible.
The timing of when this new winter storm will do most of its damage is still uncertain, but sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon is most likely.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Borough Manager Dom Viccari encourages everyone to familiarize themselves with the emergency snow routes where street parking is prohibited so that snow removal equipment can clear the streets.
The following are the snow route areas: Crescent, Border, Fountain, Wampum, and Line/Woodside Avenues; Ninth, Fifth, Second, and Bridge Streets; Mount Vernon and Aetna Drive; North Street from Wampum Avenue to Line Avenue; Pershing Street from the Five Point intersection to Mount Vernon Drive.
Local residents have their cars stuck in the snow on many of the streets within the emergency snow route; this is a problem for the Borough’s crew to move the snow away.
“We need the vehicles off these streets, especially Park and Crescent Avenue where cars are still parked in the snow,” said Viccari. “Many of the owners are elderly and have trouble digging them out, so we are hoping volunteers will help them move their cars from the snow so we can do our job better.”
