Eight Easy Steps:

Article contributed by Nathalie Kuffer of Fun 'n Fit

Turn your resolutions into new lifestyle habits with these 8 easy steps

Write it down
– Establish your goals on paper. Make them small yet achievable and identify them in different time frames (daily, monthly, yearly). By seeing the progress in your everyday life, you will notice that your long term goals are on their way to being met.

Establish your support system –
Share your goals with people you trust and know will help you along the way. Be sure to tell them that this is important to you and ask that they give you the emotional and mental support you need when the going gets tough.

The 80/20 rule –
Don’t be too strict with yourself. Give yourself the permission to indulge. 80% of the time eat and exercise like you should. 20% of the time live and enjoy without guilt.

When you fall off the wagon – It’s not a matter of ‘if’ it’s a matter of ‘when’. If you failed miserably, get up and try again. Don’t waste energy and time to dwell on it. Just try your best every day and keep trying. As the old Japanese proverb states: “Fall down 7 times, get up 8”.

Make it easy on yourself –
The wellness industry has changed over the years in ways that make it easier for us to be healthy. Take advantage of new trends such as mobile wellness services and kick back while your massage therapist or personal trainer sets up in your living room. Save time and take pleasure in the convenience of having your wellness services delivered to your doorstep.

Make time for mental health – Mental health is highly over looked. If anything, take five minutes to stop everything. Focus on positive thoughts. The simple act of closing your eyes and breathing decreases your stress level and enhances your thought pattern.

A little exercise is better than none – When time is scarce and there is no way you can squeeze in a work out, simplify with 10 minutes of stretches and meditation. That alone will make you feel better.

Whatever you do, have fun doing it – Whichever route you choose to be well, make sure it is one that you look forward to doing. If you loathe your workout, it’s time to reconsider your program and opt for a more enjoyable one. There are countless ways to get exercise and eat well. Surely you can find one that you look forward to committing to.
